RIVERSIDE, Calif. – A critical water source for Southern California – and Western – will be the topic of discussion on an October Green Power Report radio show, with John Rossi, general manager for Western Municipal Water District. The Bay Delta Conservation Plan and the plan’s significant impact on our region’s water supply reliability are the specifics for the radio show, which will air Nov. 11, at 6:30 p.m. on AM 590 The Answer.
“The Bay-Delta is a crucial component to Southern California’s water supply and economy. If we’re unable to sustainably obtain water from the Bay-Delta it would severely impact Southern California’s economy,” said Rossi.
The Bay-Delta provides drinking water for 25 million Californians – and nearly 1 million in Western’s service area – and is the irrigation water source for more than half of the fruits and vegetables harvested nationally each year. In addition, the Bay-Delta provides water for the state’s roughly $2 trillion economy. Through the State Water Project, it also provides 30 percent of Southern California’s water supply.
Rossi, who has lead Western for nearly a decade, is Western’s court-appointed watermaster for the Santa Ana River and the San Bernardino groundwater basin. He serves in numerous leadership positions throughout the region and state. Rossi’s dedication to leading Western in securing regional water supplies and his many achievements in water industry were honored with a 2013 Association of California Water Agencies (ACWA) Excellence in Water Leadership Award.
