Recognized by the California Special Districts Association
RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The California Special District Association, via its Special District Leadership Foundation (SDLF), recently awarded Western Municipal Water District with the Transparency Certificate of Excellence in honor of Western’s outstanding efforts to promote transparency and good governance.
The Certificate of Excellence is presented to organizations that place transparency and public accessibility at the forefront of their missions and meet stringent requirements promoting open government practices.
In order to receive the award, Western completed eight essential governance transparency requirements, including conducting ethics training for all Board members, properly conducting open and public meetings and filing Financial Transactions and Compensation Reports to the State Controller in a timely manner.
Additionally, Western fulfilled 15 website requirements, providing readily available information such as board meeting agendas, past minutes, the District’s current budget and most recent financial audit.
Western also confirmed its commitment to public engagement through the On Tap newsletter and special community engagement projects such as Earth Night in the Garden; a free event held every April on Earth Day at Western’s Landscapes Southern California StyleSM water-efficiency garden.
“Being open with the public about how we conduct our business is fundamental to everything we do,” said Tom Evans, Board President, who added, “Receiving the District Transparency Certificate of Excellence from SDLF shows we’re adhering to the highest standards for government transparency.”
