Four landscape contractors, one property manager and one retail water agency honored
RIVERSIDE, Calif. – As part of Western’s steadfast commitment to water use efficiency, particularly important during the current drought, the District hosted its first ever FreeSprinklerNozzles.com Landscape Water Use Efficiency Awards. The awards, made possible through the generous support of the Toro Company, honored four local landscape contractors, one property manager and one retail water agency, which have all demonstrated an exceptional commitment to water use efficiency through significant program participation.
“As California is in a drought, now more than ever, it’s important to highlight and honor those who use water efficiently day in and out,” said Western’s Water Use Efficiency Manager Tim Barr. “The program’s success is highlighted by the impressive 1.4 billion gallons of water saved per year.
Winners of the first annual FreeSprinklerNozzles.com Award Landscape Water Use Efficiency Awards include:
Adams Landscaping, Inc. – Since last year, the Temecula-based company has installed more than 32,000 high-efficiency nozzles in Riverside and San Diego counties.
Enhanced Landscape Management, Inc. – The company provides landscape services to HOAs, commercial and residential customers throughout southern California and has installed more than 10,000 nozzles through the program.
McCormick Landscaping Service – This full-service landscape company in Bakersfield, Calif., has installed more than 11,000 high-efficiency nozzles for their customers through the program.
Park West Landscape – Located in Norco, this company has installed more than 20,000 nozzles for customers, including five large HOAs, through the program.
Avalon Management Group, Inc. (Lake Hills Reserve HOA) – This property management company understands how the cost of water inefficiently used can impact their HOA clients and they take action to reduce water use through landscape efficiency. Avalon’s support of the program and partnership with HOA boards and landscape maintenance contractors has resulted in the installation of tens of thousands of nozzles.
Riverside Public Utilities Agency, Clay Monroe – Monroe is RPU’s principal account manager, and he and his team provide highly personalized service to the utility’s 100,000 customers. As one of the founding FreeSprinklerNozzles.com program members, RPU’s Monroe played a large part in the success of the program.
Through the FreeSprinklerNozzles.com program, more than 1.1 million nozzles have been distributed since its inception in 2010. The 1.1 million nozzles equate to 1.4 billion gallons of water saved annually and a water savings of nearly 7.2 billion gallons over the life of the nozzle.
Barr noted that this year’s winners were a driving force in promoting the concept of water management to their customers. “Without their initiative, the program would not achieve its remarkable results,” he added.
The free sprinkler nozzles are worth about $4 each to customers of participating water agencies. Expected to save more than 5 billion gallons of water over a five-year period, the program provides customers up to 25 free Toro® Precision™ Spray Nozzles. More than 60 irrigation suppliers are involved with the program that spans across 20 different counties and 25 water utility areas across California.
The program started as a joint effort between Western Municipal Water District and Riverside Public Utilities, which is part of the city of Riverside; the Toro Company was also instrumental in the program’s development.
Western Municipal Water District provides water supply, wastewater disposal and water resource management to the public in a safe, reliable, environmentally sensitive and financially responsible manner.
