Western Municipal Water District recently experienced a slow leak on a major water transmission pipeline. After a brief hiatus to address difficulties with accessing the rupture, crews will begin the final repair process, requiring a disruption of outdoor service to a handful of customers starting Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 6 and continuing through Thursday, Nov. 7. Phone calls and email communication, as well as worksite signage, has been created to notify all of those affected.

LOCATION - Work is being performed near the intersections of Choi Drive and Pitcairn Street in Riverside. When traveling in the area, please watch for water. The work and dewatering of the pipeline causes the release of a fair amount of water into the surrounding environment. Western captures the majority of the water within the system – roughly 2.5 million gallons; the portion that is released into the environment is about 100,000 gallons. This water can’t be pumped back into the water infrastructure system, however it will percolate into the ground making its way to the Riverside South Groundwater Basin. Water in the local basins is used beneficially by the city of Riverside and Riverside Public Utilities.
