RIVERSIDE, CA – Oct. 25, 2011 – Municipal Information Systems Association of California (MISAC) awarded Western Municipal Water District with the 2011 Award for Excellence in Information Technology Practices at the District’s board meeting.
The award recognizes outstanding information technology (IT) practices that have met or surpassed local government standards in 10 areas including strategic planning, project management, disaster preparation, security, operations methods, staffing and support.
“Thinking ahead and planning for business needs improves the efficiency of our operations to better serve our customers,” said Western General Manager John V. Rossi.
The Excellence in Information Technology Practices program recognizes cities and special districts throughout California that exceed industry practices. The program is revised annually to keep up with changing standards. Three qualified IT directors review each application, and the evaluation committee determines whether the applicant earns an award. There are two awards given – Achievement, or the higher level of Excellence.
This is the first time Western has received the Excellence award. Each applicant receives a detailed evaluation and suggestions for IT program enhancements, but not every agency receives an award.
“MISAC sets a very high standard for its awards,” said Rossi, who added, “I’m proud of our IT team; this Award of Excellence exemplifies their hard work and dedication to our ratepayers.”
