About the Well
Western Water’s New Clay Well in Murrieta has been operational since the winter of 2013, providing a greater supply of local groundwater to households, reducing reliance on expensive imported water purchased from the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California. Our dedicated efforts to restore sustainable pumping quantities from local groundwater sources have resulted in this significant achievement.
This project efficiently caters to approximately one-third of Western's Murrieta Division water needs, offering a cost-effective local water supply. With an investment of approximately $120,000 in well renovation, we had a return on investment within three to six months. By decreasing our reliance on costly imported water (priced at around $800 per acre-foot) and utilizing local groundwater (priced at $200 per acre-foot), we are making substantial progress.
Funding for the renovation project was obtained through the refinancing of the District's CFD bonds in the Murrieta Division, generating nearly $600,000 to enhance Murrieta's water sources and infrastructure. The quality of water from the renovated New Clay Well surpasses California's drinking water standards. We are committed to ensuring the delivery of high-quality and safe drinking water to our valued customers, conducting rigorous and routine testing on all the water we supply.
